I'm knitting these socks , made from standard sock yarn ready to dye yourself,available from KCG Trading. A pale dye bath is made up first and the ball of yarn to be dyed is placed in the dye bath. A gradual gradation of colour is achieved by adding small amounts of dye and winding off yarn as it picks up the new colour.One 50g ball is needed for each sock,dyed in the same dyebath if you want the two socks to match!

Here I am using Gaywool dyes on Blue-faced Leicester, the dyes randomly sprinkled on the surface before gently simmering for 30 minutes.This spins up as shown on the bobbins and if the colour sequence is kept the same on each bobbin it should ply up without too much colour merging. The results would be good for sock , bag or scarf. Lots of fun.

Friendship bracelets

This week I have been experimenting with friendship bracelets. Some are done in the traditional forward and backward knots in mercerised cotton.Others are crocheted in silk or cotton and will have beads added - watch this space! I have also handspun a singles tussah silk yarn ,already space dyed and macramed a bracelet-the start is shown in the photo.
